It would have helped to know what version of IE we were to get involved with.

Open task manager and see what process is running that is taking so much processor power. Run a search on them (it) and see what is said about it.

do not recommend that you delete registry strings on hunches. Nor do I recomend that you edit registry strings unless you are good at what you are doing!
Have you tried to uninstall IE and then reinstall it?
