Does it show to be enabled in device manager or is there a question mark or exclamation point showing on the built in NIC card?

In device manager and everything shows as to be right on the network adapter then it could be a winsock error....which can happen by spyware/malware or just naturally.

Make sure the lappy is clean from any malware/spyware/viruses first as some nasties deliberty attack the winsock to prevent the downloading of programs to remove the bad self presevation LOL!

download the LSPfix exe file and run it and it will repair the winsock if it is damaged!

LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2 stacks

If everything is ok after all this then remove the auto sign on and redo the wizard to find the signal that you wish to connect to. Besure to know the encryption if there is one!
