Need help-- system very slow

Good day folks,
I'm a Newbie. I'm glad to be a member of this community. My problem is I did a XP repair install; with XP Professional. I get an error message (Photo Gallery. msi) tries to install every time I boot. I reinstalled Windows CD to no avail. Now, the system boots very slow. System was fine before doing repair install. I reinstalled all Drivers, defrag system and checked components. Had to replace P/S. What can I do? Help Please!!!!!
Thanking you in advance!

I'd guess that your registry is jammed up with a bunch of "files not found" entries. I been using ABEXO reg cleaner and it works good for me. Best of all it's free. Just type abexo into your search engine and go from there.
No gaurentee of course. but can't hurt. Excuse spelling.

It sounds as though you've got serious problems occurring as soon as your PC boots into Windows. As masterhacker suggested, you may have rogue/invalid registry entries referring to applications or files that no longer exist, and using a registry cleaner may help.

However, my first port of call in this situation would be msconfig, which can be located by going Start - Run - msconfig and hitting enter. Under the startup tab there will be references to all the applications that run on boot - removing non-essential items will increase performance and possibly even alleviate your problem. Common things that run include media players, printer drivers, photo suites and so forth. If one of these programs is trying to do something on startup (i.e. install a component) then it may just be responsible for your problems.

Have a look in msconfig and remove non-essential applications from startup - if in doubt, post what comes up here and we will be able to tell you what should be running and what you can do without.

sometimes repair install is not successful, do a clean install..

I have to agree, the problem with repair as it tends to replace every file, but your system is still aware of all applications, so internal drivers for some software may not be up to date, or worse overlapping other drivers. The repair install should normally be avaoided for anything other than a bootloader problem or similar, even then you do not install, simply use the repair console.

I would suggest a clean install as well, there is a tutorial on this site for doing this if you have some files/data you do not wish to lose.
