Removing Norton & others NOT in Add/Remove

As a new member and not so accomplished user, I hope that I am in the right place. My question has to do with removing programs, etc from my computer (XP Home OpSys))

Have tried to REMOVE Norton Systemworks 2002 but will NOT completely uninstall - still have some utilities, Cleansweep, Live Update etc and maybe others. (Went to the SysChat   site for Norton Removal Tool, BUT does not indicate the 2002 Version 5 on the list) SO, how do I CLEAN out ALL NORTON?

Also, there is a Windows Live Photo Shop that I want to remove BUT it is NOT listed in ADD/REMOVE section - BUT it is there on Desktop and functions when clicked etc. HOW do I REMOVE it?

Thanks for any help!

Go here to the "official Norton" website to download the 2003 removal tool utility. Never trust third part sites to download software.

The 2003 version may get rid of Norton Systemworks 2002, you will have to give it a try.

I have never used Win Live Photo Shop, have you looked in the programmes folder and looked for the uninstaller there.

Ccleaner most probably will uninstall it. Make sure you Ccleaner Lite and not the one with the Yahoo malware in it...

CCleaner - Home

Tried cCleaner

Thanks, Wombat.

Tried CCleaner as you indicated and also did NOT find Windows Live Photo Shop listed - there were other Live entries, e.g. Messenger BUT NO photo so that didn't work

Have not tried the Removal Tool yet BUT will go there now.

Thanks.

Still No Luck!

Tried the Norton Removal Tool as suggested - 2003 as 2002 NOT listed. Received message that Norton Cleansweep 2002 or earlier and Norton Utilities 2002 or earlier were on the computer and must be REMOVED BEFORE the 2003 tool could be run etc.

NEITHER are listed in CCleaner nor the Add/Remove location. Both are listed in the program group BUT do not find any UNINSTALL item.

Now what?

By program group...do you mean start > all programs... or C:\programs..?

when using the add/remove program some programs are sometimes disquized as updates and will be hidden. Open the add/remove program and put a tick in the show updates box at the top and then look for the programs by either norton or symantec names

I meant the Start > All programs. (Will check the C:\Programs now.)

Tried looking at updates in Add/Remove and did NOT find there either.

(Found MANY Windows XP Updates, HotFixes, Security Updates etc - Is there a way to combine and/or eliminate these?)

Thanks.

Anything showing in the start > all programs should show up in the add/remove application. Why symantic/norton is not showing up there but is in the all programs section astounds me. They must have put in a fix to keep it from being installed from using that avenue....typical symantec/norton proprietariness in my opinion.

I once used norton/symantec programs (many years ago). In order to remove it back then there was 22 pages of scripting that had to be gone over line for line...I made up my mind then and there that that was too much.

Reformat and reinstall is about the only way to go now in order to truely clean your system from their crap!

Me too but with Skype

I am having the same problem in uninstalling skype though. It is not in the add/remove program menu but is in the start menu and was in the sys tray. It runs ok but I cannot uninstall. Please help. This thing keeps popping up **** links etc etc and I just cannot afford the penis enlargement :-)

Start your own thread, as it is not netiquette to hijack some else's thread...
